Joe Biden meets with 10 Republican senators who want to present a counter-proposal to the 1.9 Trillion Covid-19 rescue plan in an attempt to forge unity over partisan lines.
The proposal is less than 1/3 the size and provides 100's of millions of dollars to expand Covid-19 testing, vaccine rollout improvements and to get kids back to school.
Biden has proven he is capable to divide Washington, he knows the risks to his popularity in not "getting this right" and although he has welcomed the meeting with the 10 Republicans, the WH made it known that a plan short of Biden's ambitions will not be accepted
"As leading economists have said, the danger now is not in doing too much: it is in doing too little. Americans of both parties are looking to their leaders to meet the moment," White House press secretary Jen Psaki said in a statement on Sunday evening.
The senators said in a joint statement Sunday that they appreciated Biden's quick response to their proposal and had accepted an invitation to meet the President at the White House on Monday afternoon.
